Northeast Lafferty League

What is the Northeast Lafferty League?

Well, honestly, we're still figuring that out. I like to imagine dozens of small local Lafferty societies. NELL is the regional umbrella for all of these societies. We'll all meet once a year to talk Lafferty, read Lafferty, sing Lafferty, drink Lafferty, fight Lafferty. Maybe someday there will be a national or international or intergalactic Lafferty organization. I like to think that that organization will come sooner or later and be a parent to us pre-existing children. Of course, the Big Laff Society will have headquarters in Tulsa.

Slow down. What is "the Northeast"?

The U.S. Census Bureau has defined the Northeast region as comprising nine states: the New England states of Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont; and the Mid-Atlantic states of New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania. This just happens to be where I live. If you live elsewhere, please form your own regional league. Don't worry, though, we'll give you honorary membership status in the Northeast League if you ask nicely.

Whoa. Who is Lafferty?

Well, now. Glad you asked. Spend some time here: http://www.ralafferty.org. Then come back and join us.

Why a "League"?

Because it started with L and I like alliteration. Also, because this definition of "league" fits in well with what we are trying to do:
"a covenant or compact made between persons, parties, states, etc., for the promotion or maintenance of common interests or for mutual assistance or service."
We agree to bind ourselves together in the common cause of the promotion of the works of R.A. Lafferty. We pledge mutual assistance and service to one another in this work.

Okay. How do I join?

This is still a work-in-progress. More information will be coming soon.

When is the Party?

We have set a date for the First Annual Northeast Laffcon. Save the date. Mark your calendars. May 30th, 2015. New York City. More details will emerge as we figure this all out.
